I am writing today to let you know that the Chamber of Commerce version
of Phil is now available for order.
According to the gentleman I placed my order with, Phil was officially
released on Monday 12/15 for purchase at the Chamber office and has a
birthdate of February 2. His poem reads as follows:
"predicting the weather's my career. I do my job one day a year. My
shadow will declare my fate. Will winter go, or spring be late?! "
The gentleman also informed me that Ty is not releasing any other
version of Phils this year and this is the one and only way to get him.
Ty and the Chamber moved up the release of this beanie due to the
economy and thought that most collectors wouldn’t be able to budget for
beanie purchases after the holidays, and neither wanted the die hard
fans to miss out, so they felt a holiday season release would be best.
Guess they haven’t figured out that us beanie nuts always have a dollar
or two for a special new friend...lol.
Phil cost $6 each plus 6% tax in PA and appropriate shipping charges. I
ordered 4 today and my total came to just under $35.

I have no idea when it happened at this time because I got quite tired of looking for it. I finally got around to updating and found the note below on the Beanwatcher's Site. It really says it all. Much of the enthusiasm has gone out of the Ty Beanie Line like air out of a popped ballon. However, like the Classic toys of olde, Lincoln Logs, Barbie, Hess, Pez and more,Beanies are forever. There will always be the seasoned as well as new collectors of hand held Ty Beanies and Ty products. They will keep a nostalgic presence for many many years to come...

After much thought, I have decided to suspend further updates to the Bean Watcher site.
At the beginning of the year, I had great hopes for Ty's new line of plush toys. But instead of generating more excitement, it is apparent that interest in beanies has waned. Collecting Ty beanies, for this long-time collector, simply is not the same. The fun, excitement, and magic of years gone by are just fond memories.
I won't call this announcement a "retirement" since it sounds so final. And I won't say "good-bye" since Ty, Inc. may become "collector - friendly" once again. Who knows, I may decide to re-appear in the months ahead. There are interesting new styles waiting to be introduced and I may want to share the news when the time is right.
So for now, I'll just say, "See you later..." The first few lines of a popular song by the late Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, "Happy Trails," appropriately express my sentiments:
Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Thank you for the times we shared together. I hope that you'll always find the beanies you want, now and in the future.

A Cyberboard note found by Ms. Janie noted changes on the Beanies 2.0 Interactive section of the Ty web site:
The General Store is now open! You can trade all of the items in your
back pack (now called the Bean Bag) and receive beans in exchange. These
beans can then be used to purchase different food items.
Also, gardens have been added to the Beanie homes. You can use the beans
in your bag to plant them and use the watering can to grow them.
And yes, this is the mysterious watering can that people didn't know
what to do with.

Collecting the Sports Commemorative beanies has been fun, and the hunt
is still on for me until I get the last 6 I’m missing.
They will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Some I have
multiples of and some only 1 extra. All come with their authentic
Commemorative Card, and the majority with the ticket stub from the game,
and some with pins. I also have a few Official Publications from the
teams.
I thought I would let those I know about these first, before putting
them on ebay.

Hi All
ok, I am able to order the Ness-e Classic from tomorrow and am told I will have him instore by Monday coming, ( 30th June ) so he will be ready to mail out from then.
The Classic is £9.99 British Pounds ( around US$20 ) , this is the regular cost of Classics in the UK.
The shipping as usual will depend on weight alone so I would imagine that 1 classic would be around £2.50 British Pounds to mail out of the UK but will go down slightly for each extra one on top of that ( due to the weight charges ) eg 1 Classic would be around £2.50British Pounds, but 2 may only work out at £4.00 British Pounds ( not £5 British POunds ) I will be able to give an EXACT shipping cost as soon as they arrive and I can take one to the post office to get him weighed.

Collecting the Sports Commemorative beanies has been fun, and the hunt is still on for me until I get the last 6 I’m missing.
They will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Some I have multiples of and some only 1 extra. All come with their authentic Commemorative Card, and the majority with the ticket stub from the game, and some with pins. I also have a few Official Publications from the teams.

Ty Warner Vindicated Of Alleged Witness Tampering; Damage Award Reinstated

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals recently affirmed a jury’s decision in favor of Ty on a trademark infringement claim and reinstated a damage award of $713,000 that had previously been ordered forfeited as a sanction for Ty’s alleged tampering with a witness.

Toxic Toys
This is a News 11 Special Report by Brad Harvey.
You can be the most careful parent -- pouring over recall lists and consumer reports magazines before buying any toys for your kids. Even at that, there may be a danger you know nothing about, as News 11's Brad Harvey reports.
We're talking about PVCs, which many call "plastic poison." The reason you've heard little about them is that toys made with them are not the subject of any kind of recall.
But some other products made with them have been recalled, and that's where the debate begins. We've been there as scores of children have offered a tentative finger for the prick of a blood test to show if they've been exposed to lead. Toys from China, lead paint on window sills -- the last thing parents need is to be worried about additional common household items that may be toxic.
Especially more toys.
But the latest warning couldn't be more common. They're toys made with PVC's -- polyvinyl chlorides. It's a type of plastic, and the concern about it originated from the heart of the medical community itself.
"The debate really ramped up when there was a study in 2003 that showed that plasticizers in IV tubing and other medical tubing in neonatal ICU units were causing problems with the development of newborn babies," says Dr. Tara Robinson, a family practice physician.
Robinson is no alarmist, but she has been watching closely as each new study is done. The problem isn't so much with the PVCs themselves but with the compounds manufacturers often mix in to make the plastic soft.
"These thiolates are compounds that are in conjunction with the PVCs chemically but are not chemically bonded to the PVCs, so they can leach out over time and that's what was found in the medical tubing studies -- that these compounds leached out over time," Robinson explains.
The list of toys made with this soft form of plastic is astonishingly long -- everything from action figures to rubber duckies.
The really scary thing about this is that, with babies, absolutely everything goes into their mouths. Astonishingly, teethers make the list most often.
There's little doubt that the softening agent by itself in large amounts is harmful, but how much of it leaches out of the toy and into the child's mouth is the question. Several organizations cite studies claiming the amount is significant and could be hazardous to kids.
Greenpeace has fought court battles over the issue for years. But the plastics industry has angrily denied any danger, pointing to their own studies. So what's a parent to do?
"I haven't really made any recommendations to my patients. But I know a lot of folks try to steer their children away from those plastic toys, instead giving them cloth or wooden toys to chew on so that they don't get exposed to those agents," Robinson says.
You can tell some, but not all of the toys containing the PVC plasticizer by the recycling number -- just look for the number three.
Just last week, lawmakers in the State of Washington passed a bill banning PVCs in toys. Late last year, California became the first state to do so.

Toy manufacturer and businessman Ty Warner’s 18,000 square foot home caught fire early Thursday morning, causing an estimated $5 million in damages. Firefighters from the Santa Barbara city and county fire departments, Carpinteria-Summerland Fire District and the Montecito Fire Protection District responded, taking roughly three hours to contain the fire at 1001 Fairway Rd., which was first reported at 1 a.m. Thursday.
The fire was reported by security at the residence and was contained to just two rooms. Seven engines one truck company, one urban search and rescue vehicle, one rescue vehicle, one ambulance and several command vehicles responded, bringing more than 35 firefighters to the scene. Sprinklers also had been activated in the home as well. The cause of the fire was an overheated fireplace chase (the casing around the chimney) according to a press release from Montecito Fire Protection District spokesperson Geri Ventura.
The fire happened in the main house, which is currently being built. In a statement Friday, a spokesman for Warner’s company downplayed the severity of the fire. “There was a relatively small fire contained within the construction site of Ty Warner’s residence,” said Greg Rice, executive vice president of Ty Warner Hotels & Resorts. “We are currently in the process of assessing the damage and the cause. Our sincere appreciation goes out to our local fire agencies for their quick and efficient response.”

I don't know if this is of interest to you - I got this Collectors Card
for the BB 2.0s and card advertisement from my retailer today ( they

those that think the beanies are cute, are disappointed that they have

Ty, please can you attach the hang tag as you have in the past, and then
add an additional tag (possibly sealed in a plastic envelope), so that
only the tag with the code need be removed? Also, from photos I have

Facing increasing pressure from authorities, a major toymaker has removed lead-tainted dolls from store shelves across the state, the Illinois attorney general's office said Tuesday.
Ty Inc. said it has replaced its popular Jammin' Jenna dolls with a redesigned version, the state said. Now, the toy's shoes are made of cloth and not vinyl, the part of the product that showed high lead levels.
"While we are pleased with the results, it is unfortunate it took weeks to get them to take these steps," said Cara Smith, deputy chief of staff to Illinois Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan.
Ty officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
The state and Ty, which is based in Westmont, had been at odds since last fall when testing by the Tribune found that the doll and a variety of other toys sold in the Chicago area contained high levels of lead, a metal that can cause learning delays in children.
A day later, the attorney general's office demanded that retailers and manufacturers cease sales of the tainted toys identified by the newspaper. Most companies complied, Smith said, but Ty agreed only to stop distributing new Jammin' Jennas to retailers. The company refused to pull those dolls still on shelves, Smith said.
Unsatisfied, the state began testing the dolls and considering legal action against the company. The dispute was detailed Tuesday in a Page 1 story in the Tribune.
On Tuesday afternoon, Smith said, a Ty lawyer called the attorney general's office and said that the company had pulled the dolls from shelves the first week in January. Smith said it was unclear why Ty waited until Tuesday to tell the state of this action.
In previous interviews, Ty representatives have said the company is not violating state law because federal rules supersede it. While the state bans vinyl toys that exceed 600 parts per million of lead, federal law does not.
But both the state attorney general's office and the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission have said that the Illinois ban is valid because states can adopt their own rules where no federal law exists.
Ty's action Tuesday appears to have averted a possible court fight and what would have been the first test of Illinois' strict lead laws.

In what could trigger the first test of Illinois' strict law against
lead in toys, a major toymaker is refusing to pull a popular, but
tainted, doll from store shelves across the state.
Illinois authorities thought they had reached an amicable agreement late
last year with Ty Inc. to have the company voluntarily remove its
Jammin' Jenna dolls from retailers because the toys contained high
amounts of lead.
But a few days later, the state attorney general's point person on the
issue was surprised to see Jammin' Jenna for sale in a candy store near
her office. The next morning, the official spotted another one at a
grocery store near her home.

Ty Inc. has issued the following statement regarding this article
TY INC. PRODUCTS ARE 100% SAFE FOR CHILDREN
Ty Inc. has removed all Jammin’ Jenna dolls from the toy shelves in
Illinois and replaced them with a redesigned version of the shoes that
addresses any concern raised by the Illinois Attorney General. Ty took
this action even though the Jammin’ Jenna dolls met all federal safety
standards and posed absolutely no risk of harm to children.
The Jammin Jenna doll meets all safety standards promulgated by the
Federal Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the doll, like all of
Ty’s products, was tested for compliance with federal regulations before
it was introduced on the market. In November, Ty again tested the toys,
and the tests reconfirmed that the toys were safe and met all federal
safety requirements. Even though it was not required to do so, Ty
immediately ceased manufacturing this item and changed the material of
the shoes. Ty voluntarily stopped distributing and selling the toys in
Illinois, even though Ty does not believe this product is governed by
Illinois state law.
Ty wishes to point out that it has always cooperated with the Illinois
authorities on this matter. Consumers should rest assured that Ty has
always been vigilant in ensuring that its toys are 100% safe for
children.
